就在美國在台協會（AIT）19日晚間發布聲明表示，20日將有多達250萬劑的莫德納疫苗（Modera）抵台、比原先所承諾的75萬劑多出3倍，美國國務院發言人普萊斯（Ned Price）的推特帳號、隨即湧入各式留言，批評美國國務院無視全球疫情「輕重緩急」。

加拿大語言學家考夫曼（Steve Kaufmann）批評，美國對外的正規合約「形同虛設」，「在真正重要的時刻，美國根本不允本正常的疫苗出口。台灣明明是個富裕國家，為什麼需要美國捐贈那麼多疫苗？」

Taiwan is a wealthy country, doesn't require donations of vaccine. When it really mattered, the US didn't allow the export of vaccine based on normal commercial contracts, whereas the EU did. Canada was able to get vaccine supply from Belgium not the US.

甚至有人質疑，如果台灣這種染疫率不算高的地方，都能快速取得大量捐贈疫苗，那麼美國未來將如何應對其他「同等級」國家的請求？

對此，美國國家安全會議稍早轉貼國務院發文，表示力挺贈予台灣疫苗與醫療物資的這一決定，並稱「台灣先前在美國面臨疫情危機時，曾捐贈大批物資協助，我們很高興今天能以疫苗幫助台灣的需要！」
