兩天前剛前往比利時布魯塞爾出席歐盟峰會的盧森堡大公國總理貝特爾（Xavier Bettel），在27日經總理辦公室聲明表示，已確定染上新冠肺炎，將展開居家隔離10天。

新冠肺炎延燒至今已有多國領導人中鏢，且當前印度Delta變種病毒正蔓延全球，帶原者可能在幾秒內就讓週遭人染疫。而貝爾特日前參加歐盟各國政要出席的峰會上，即便發言人強調與會人士都有遵守防疫規範，仍存在病毒傳播風險。

在24至25日歐盟峰會期間，自己便身為跨性別者、2015年已與愛人成婚的貝爾特，在推廣LGBTI平權議案上扮演重要角色，曾與一同提案的法國總統馬卡洪（Emmanuel Macron）近距離接觸。

在會上，德國總理梅克爾（Angela Merkel）與義大利總理德拉基（Mario Draghi）等人也紛紛聲援貝爾特平權提案，使長年反對性別平權議題的匈牙利總理歐爾班（Viktor Orbán），被荷蘭總理呂特（Mark Rutte）建議應離開歐盟，與歐爾班幾乎直接槓上的貝爾特，在會後也接受許多外媒採訪。

此前，貝爾特15日與馬卡洪、加拿大總理杜魯道（Justin Trudeau）剛出席北約峰會（NATO Summit）。18日，貝爾特也單獨接待來訪的歐盟主席馮德萊恩（Ursula von der Leyen）。21日，再與白俄羅斯反對派領袖季哈諾夫斯卡亞（Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya）於盧森堡交換對於白國現況的想法。23日，貝爾特也曾出席盧森堡國慶日活動演說，感謝國人一同挺過盧國疫情。

據報，貝爾特現年48歲，在5月時已打過第一劑阿斯利康（AZ）疫苗，原計將在7月1 日接種第二劑，卻在這時確定染上新冠肺炎，將展開居家隔離10天，而其目前病徵為輕微發燒、頭痛，預計在家期間仍然會遠距處理公務。
