美國東北部遭超級颶風艾達（Ida）侵襲，降雨量破紀錄、洪水氾濫，紐約市長白思豪（Bill de Blasio）2日宣布該市進入緊急狀態。

《美國有線電視新聞網》（CNN）報導，紐約州、康乃狄克州、馬里蘭州、紐澤西州、紐約州、德拉瓦州、賓夕法尼亞州和維吉尼亞州受到嚴重影響，死亡人數上升到46人，許多人下落不明。

美國紐澤西州州長莫菲（Phil Murphy）表示，多數死因為被洪水困在車裡，逃脫困難，隨著水位慢慢增高而「被淹沒了」

報導指出，還有一名康乃狄克州的州警在回報失蹤人口的名單時，被洪水所捲走。目前救援行動仍續進行，希望找出被困在車內或地下室的倖存者。

水患也淹到紐約的地下鐵。救災人員1日從停運的列車中救出通勤旅客，截至2日，共有835人被順利救出。

一些人則被迫在外地過夜。來自紐約皇后區的護士普萊斯（Beverly Pryce）表示，1日晚上離家準備上班，沒想到大水來襲，「我從未見過這樣的事情。外面陷入混亂，我的鄰居有人因此喪命。」
