一名冰島推特工程師日前因為工作帳號被停用，四處詢問下無法得知自己是否已被開除，因此在推特公開向執行長馬斯克（Elon Musk）提問，雖然成功獲得回覆，隨後卻因資遣費引發口角，馬斯克更指其為「最糟糕的傢伙」，但隨後態度出現180度轉變，除了將文章刪除並道歉外，也透露該工程師正考慮繼續留在推特，試圖平息此次糾紛。

英國廣播公司（BBC）報導，患有肌肉萎縮症的冰島工程師托雷夫森（Halli Thorleifsson）與馬斯克，為了資遣費問題在推特上激烈交鋒，馬斯克更在回覆網友時，強調事實是托雷夫森「已經是有錢人」，更以疾病為由未完成任何工作，但「在此同時卻能夠用推特引發一場爭論」，嚴厲批判托雷夫森，更指他「是最糟糕的傢伙」。

但在托雷夫森的前同事挺身而出，強調其敬業精神與才能，以及日常對人道關懷的付出，都與馬斯克所指涉的情況有所出入，馬斯克便與托雷夫森進行視訊對話，隨後情況急轉直下，馬斯克不僅道歉、刪除怒罵的推文之外，也表示托雷夫森正在考慮繼續於推特任職。

I would like to apologize to Halli for my misunderstanding of his situation. It was based on things I was told that were untrue or, in some cases, true, but not meaningful.

He is considering remaining at Twitter.

報導指出，托雷夫森由於己身的疾患，多年來持續在冰島推動輪椅友善通道的計畫，在2021年將公司出售給推特時，據傳他也採取了稅率較高的交易方式，對冰島財政做出貢獻，因此在2022年時，被4家當地媒體推選為年度人物。此外，據傳根據當時出售公司的合約，推特若要將托雷夫森開除，就必須給付一筆極為可觀的資遣費。

在爭議告一段落的同時，托雷夫森宣布他將於近期內，在冰島首都雷克雅維克以其母親為名，新開一間餐廳，並未對是否將繼續於推特任職表態，推特公司對此事也未回應。
