太陽風暴引發的強烈磁暴10日來襲，美國、澳洲、英國、中國以及日本等地都出現極光現象，將夜空渲染成夢幻的炫麗色彩。

《每日郵報》（Daily Mail）報導，當來自太陽的帶電粒子直接撞擊地球磁場時，就會發生這種現象。這一反應將黑暗的天空變成了充滿活力的、閃爍著旋轉的彩色光幕的天空，散發出包括綠色、粉紅色、紅色、黃色、藍色以及紫色的光芒。這種現象類似出現在極圈地區的極光，通常只有在斯堪地那維亞半島、阿拉斯加以及冰島等地才能看得道的景色，10日的太陽風暴則讓歐洲和北美地區也能看到此一壯觀的景色。
